Extra Life Charity Stream

For the 2017 Extra Life Charity event, I pledged to raise $250 as part of a team of video game players and streamers known as CorD (a Twitch streaming community called Cast or Die). I created some unique elements for my stream slates since the stream was supposed to be 24-hours long.

Unfortunately, technical difficulties led to my internet shorting out about 9 hours into the event and I had to cut it short. Thankfully, we reached our $250 goal just before the issues kicked in.

As a way to encourage donations, I created this t-shirt design which features my chibi Gunther logo dressed in attire from Hitman: Blood Money. For donations of $25 or more, I gave away this t-shirt. The design was well received by my viewers and it was a very interesting project for me. I had designed shirts before, but this one I made with a lot more years of experience behind me. I utilized Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a proper vector image that translated nicely onto the shirt.

For this .gif, I took a 3D model of a t-shirt and textured it to reflect generally what the shirt would look like. That way when I showed it to viewers, they could see how it would look on an actual t-shirt instead of translating the image onto a shirt in their mind. I utilized a .obj file for the shirt and textured the shirt using Adobe Photoshop and Element 3D. The .gif was made by exporting an Animation Quicktime file from After Effects and turning that into a .gif using Adobe Photoshop to avoid loss of quality.

On the side, I made a pixel heart with the words “Gunthermation Nation” inside of it. The goal of the “Gunthermation Nation” heart was symbolic. First, I only want to iterate the design on charity shirts. That way the regular design can still go out, but the shirts with the heart show that the person donated to a good cause. Second, the metaphoric meaning of wearing a heart on one’s sleeve was pretty cool to me. Especially considering that this was a charity event for children, it seemed appropriate.

Here is the design on its own:
